Storytime and Creative Workshops for ages 6 – 10
As the author of Sheepy, I am happy to arrange school visits with an aim to encourage children to call upon their imagination and then find enjoyment in creating something that is probably as individual as they are.
What will happen on the day?
The sessions usually last 45 minutes, but they can be structured to last a little longer or be reduced depending on the school requirements.
The workshops begin by introducing the world of Sheepy and the characters that live within it. Followed by a short synopsis of the book, ‘Sheepy and the Riddle of The Occurrence’.
We then go on to talk about, writing, illustrating and the publishing process that enables us to bring a book together. (or at least how my book came together).
Through questions and answers and by using our imaginations we begin to create our characters.
Then on a pre printed A3 sheet that has been beautifully illustrated by Richard Berner the children can create a name and draw their own crazy creature that lives in the woods. They can then go on to create a story. What happens when Sheepy and his friends meet this imaginary being?
Enquiring questions will be covered within the workshop through interactive discussion.
- Where does it live?
- What does it look like?
- What colour is it?
- Can it fly or walk on the surface or does it live in a pond?
- What does it eat?
- Will Sheepy have to escape it or come to its assistance?
- What is it called?
- How to create a name?
Afterwards the children will be able to take their pictures home, along with a colouring page, a drawing Sheepy activity page and a bookmark.
I am happy to do up to 3-4 sessions per day and very happy to fit into your school schedule. Possible suggested times are:
- 9.30 am – 10.30 am
- 11 am – 12 pm
- 1 pm – 2 pm
Please ensure that a member of staff is present at all times on the day.
Book signings take place at the end of the day. I am happy to stay until all the parents and children that want to see me, have. I won’t rush off and leave anyone disappointed on the day.
